In a surprising partnership that challenges traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Revealed

According to the official statement, "A strange meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where rumors of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The narrative features a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a clandestine sect.

The mission concentrates on "bizarre trials and a fearsome adversary" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Changes

The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The teaser concludes with a striking moment showing a character, probably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Extra Content

Players who accomplish the adventure will receive an special katana alongside several artifacts hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps steed

This release also adds the game's latest complimentary story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature abilities: Naoe reveals a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may ultimately clarify some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Japanese Animation Collaborations

This marks not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime properties. The series formerly featured a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially contained a quest that clearly referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
